About

I am a technical writer who has also worked on the marketing side of technical (and other) products. Technical writing and marketing is heresy to some, but I see excellent user instructions and technical support as a critical component to successful marketing of software and other technical products.

A member of the Write The Docs community, I enjoy sharing ideas with colleagues from every area of the software documentation / developer community.

I am also graduate of Squared Online, Google’s Digital Marketing Course. Project 1 required an introductory video, My Digital Life. So, for a bit more about me …

Feature writing

In addition to technical writing I have written articles on more general topics, for example for The Global Dispatches expert commentary website and for Pride of Britain hotel group magazine, as well as ghosting many trade magazine articles.

With excellent research skills I welcome the challenge of writing on any subject.

First person singular

Away from work I enjoy walking, wild swimming, photography, art and, of course, reading. I also play the guitar; very badly but, hey, practice, practice…

Albania

I have a long association with Albania and am very pleased that the Centre For Albanian Studies is one of my longstanding design clients. See the Book Design page for examples.

In November 2013 I was a guest at the launch of ‘The Balkan Wars’ in Tetova, Macedonia. The book was published simultaneously in English, Albanian and Macedonian.

Published author

I have also co-written a literary history of London, London: City of Words, which traces and brings to life the flow of ideas, friendships and rivalries played out in coffee houses, pubs and clubs across the city as succeeding generations have confronted the challenges of life, art and the blank page.

“One of the most original and enjoyable books about London I’ve read in years – a must for all lovers of literature.” Architect and broadcaster Maxwell Hutchinson

Last year I also published on Kindle a study of Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf – Walking With Mrs Dalloway.
